Sharon McHardy
Studied @ Angus College: Access to Uniformed Services
Sharon McHardy, 35, from Arbroath had previously tried to get into the Police but didn't manage to pass the interview stage. Realising that applying again might bring the same fate, Sharon resolved to do something about it and enrolled on the Access to Uniformed Services course at Angus College.
Sharon says, "I was looking for a grounding to stand me in good stead for re-applying. I knew that I would be asked what preparation I had done, so I thought this course would be ideal."
Signing up for the course was a big gamble for Sharon as she sold up her own beauty salon business to follow her dream and with a mortgage to pay and a family to support, it was a daunting prospect.
Sharon continues, "I've found the course so good and so varied and as well as the physical work we've had lessons in IT and communications and visits to meet people in the various services. I've certainly never been bored because there's been something different to do every day."
"I realise now that I would never have passed the fitness test for the Police before as my fitness was just not good enough but now, because of doing the course, it's improved 100% and I am much more confident.
"The course has given me a great insight into the various Services and the areas of work within them. I would sincerely recommend this course to anyone thinking about a career in uniformed services."
